Colposcopy

Colposcopy examines your cervix, vagina and vulva for any sign of disease. During a colposcopy procedure, your doctor uses an instrument called Colposcope. For example, if your Pap test is abnormal your doctor may recommend a colposcopy. Also, if an uncommon area of cells were seen during colposcopy, a sample of tissue can be collected for further laboratory testing (biopsy).

Colposcopy can also be used to diagnose:

  • Genital Warts
  • Inflammation of the Cervix (Cervicitis)
  • Precancerous Changes in the Tissue of the Cervix
  • Precancerous Changes in the Tissue of the Vagina
  • Precancerous Changes of the Vulva
